New Guideline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IDSA (Infectious Diseases Society of America) published a new guideline this year for treatment of soft tissue infections and MRSA.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Outpatient treatment:<\/p>\n<p>Cellulitis (Purulent) with no Abscess formation:<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Clindamycin<\/strong> Adult: 300\u2013450 mg PO TID\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Peds: 10\u201313 mg\/kg\/dose PO every 6\u20138 h, not to exceed 40 mg\/kg\/day<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Bactrim<\/strong> Adult: 1\u20132 DS tab PO BID\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Peds:\u00a0 Trimethoprim 4\u20136 mg\/kg\/dose,<br \/>\nsulfamethoxazole 20\u201330 mg\/kg\/dose\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PO every 12 h<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Doxycycline<\/strong> Adult: 100 mg PO BID\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Peds: &lt;=45kg: 2 mg\/kg\/dose PO every 12 h &gt;45kg: adult dose<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cellulitis (Non-Purulent) with no Abscess formation:<\/p>\n<p>1. b-lactam (eg, cephalexin and dicloxacillin)<br \/>\n2. b-lactam (eg, amoxicillin) and\/or TMP-SMX or a tetracycline<br \/>\n3.
