The history of publishing hypertension guidelines traces back to the Joint National Committee (JNC) on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure. The most recent guideline published under the JNC banner was the JNC 7, which was released by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The latest JNC 8 was published by JAMA in 2014. The new guideline was released in 2020 in the journal Hypertension by International Society of hypertension:
