Effective Antibiotic Treatment Prescribed by Emergency Physicians in Severe Sepsis or Septic Shock

Journal of Emergency Medicine published an article with title of “Effective Antibiotic Treatment Prescribed by Emergency Physicians in Patients Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit With Severe Sepsis or Septic Shock” in Dec,2011.

This was a retrospective study among ED patients whom were admitted to ICU with diagnosis of sever sepsis or septic shock. Of the 137 patients with positive culture and positive criteria for sepsis, 82 % received effective antibiotics. Interestingly, 18 % of patients who had ineffective antibiotic had resistant Gram-negative organisms.
